Caring for Your Kitchen Cabinets

Remodeling a kitchen is a big budget project and can consume large portions of your remodeling budget. But you shouldn’t be too concerned about putting money into your kitchen cabinets as they are a onetime investment and will have valuable future returns as well. It is important to maintain your kitchen cabinets to give them long life and to keep them looking good. Spending a little time on maintaining your kitchen will save you lots of money if it keeps you from completely remodeling.

After you finish cooking, wipe down the countertop, in and around the stpve to clean any dirt, grease, oil splits, and other spills. Keep this as a routine, failing which you will end up with having unclean kitchen after few days and would find very difficult to clean afterwards.

Wipe down the surfaces of the kitchen cabinets using a damp cloth to remove any oil, grime and grease and dirt deposits and to give them a polished look. Use a soft cloth to avoid any scratches on the surface of the cabinet. Use mild soak and avoid strong chemicals or detergents to clean the cabinet surfaces.

You must wipe away any spills on the cabinet immediately. This is because if you left it without cleaning it would accumulate in the wood and causes damage to the wood.

Keep the contents of the drawers to the minimum. Don’t over load cabinet drawers as heavy weight would make your cabinet drawer to crack, split or to break.

Keep knives, sourcing pads, steel wool and other abrasive materials away from the cabinet as they would damage the cabinet.
